Facebook is at fault

For everything that you don't have answers for

Hey There,

Yes this might seem abrupt as this is not on a weekend or after a interval of many weeks but this was something dancing on my mind.

Addressing two crucial questions that I faced together as both the questions are closely related to each other:

Question 1 -

I recently learned that I am not able to extract post ids from ad-sets that are using Dynamic creative as a feature.

Initially I though it is just one of the many glitches but my good friend on Linkedin Akshaya was also facing the same issue.

Ps: She is amazing at Facebook ads - so if you every find me too cocky to work with, feel free to hit her up on linkedin.

I did ask one more trusted source who by the way is a CMO of a 8 figure brand and he too is facing the same issue.

Question 2 -

This was a big question lingering in my mind since 3 to 4 months which is:

When I turn the dynamic creative feature ‘ON’ that specific ad-set never shows “Learning” in the delivery section.

Nor does it ever turn into a “Learning Limited” ad set.

I was wondering if facebook by-passes the learning phase for Dynamic Creative ad-sets?

I tired reading on this but there is nothing on the internet on this.

Nor the official blog by facebook which is otherwise covers almost everything has mentioned anything about the relationship between the two.

So while I was discussing this dynamic creative topic with my source I also sneaked this question in and he said there is no official documentation so even he doesn’t know the official word on this.

So now let’s get to the solutions that I could gather -

From all the collective experience of Facebook ads we learn one thing

When there is ambiguity - Don’t trust Facebook.

Always think of the worst case scenario and play the safest card.

So in this case,

The answer to question 1 and 2 both is…

Go back to the classic way of testing

  • Add all your creatives options in one ad-set

  • Add 2 headline and primary text options in each one

  • Run them and keep the winners going

In this set-up you can also comfortably extract your post ids and move it to a scaling CBO or ASC without losing on social proof collected on the ads.

How is this a solution to the learning phase problem?

Well, when Facebook doesn’t tell something openly the chances of the same thing happening without you being informed are high.

So let’s assume all your Dynamic creative ad-sets are still going through the same conditions required to exit the learning phase.

If most of your Dynamic Creative ad-sets are not generating 50 conversions in the given attribution window all of them are probably going to Learning Limited.

In a normal ad-set at least you will be notified about it and you can take the necessary actions if the ad-set is gone to learning limited, unlike a Dynamic Creative where you don’t even know.

Disclaimer,

This is what I am saying based on my personal experience - there is no official word by Meta/Facebook about how using the Dynamic Creative features affects the learning phase.

Hopefully they provide some clarification and if this post ids thing is a glitch, they get it fixed soon.
